After wondering how Frontier’s ‘disconcertingly vague’ “Nothing to announce at this time” actually pan out over time I thought I would make a note of their current FAQs for PS4 here and keep an eye on developments after it was announced on several websites today that there would be a physical disc copy of ED released for PS4 and XBox One. The update date below is Frontier’s, not mine.

When will Elite Dangerous be released on PS4™?
ANSWERED: We plan to launch in Q2 2017.
What will Elite Dangerous on PS4™ come with?
ANSWERED: The PS4™ version of Elite Dangerous will be the complete experience. Including Elite Dangerous and the Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass.
How much will Elite Dangerous on PS4™ cost?
ANSWERED: Just £39.99 digitally on PlayStation™Network, Q2 2017.
UPDATE 2017-05-05 Prices are being finalised and we hope to announce the full price list before the game is released in Q2 2017.
Will Elite Dangerous for PS4™ work on PS4™Pro?
ANSWERED: Yes, we plan on supporting the PS4™Pro with Elite Dangerous.
Will Elite Dangerous support PlayStation®VR?
NOT ANSWERED: Elite Dangerous is a flagship VR game on PC so of course VR is important to us. It’s definitely something we’re looking into, but we have nothing to announce for launch.
Will you de-couple Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons?
ANSWERED: This will not be the case at launch. We want to offer the complete Elite Dangerous experience to PlayStation®4 players.
UPDATE 2017-05-05 Yes, you will be able to purchase the base game and the expansions separately.
Will you make a physical disc version?
NOT ANSWERED: We have nothing to announce right now. Elite Dangerous is a living game and has always been digital-first.
UPDATE (mine) 2017-04-24 PS4 will have a physical disc version as noted here;
UPDATE 2017-05-05 We are working on a physical version of Elite Dangerous to be available as an alternative to the digital-only version on the PS4™.
Will PlayStation®, PC and Xbox One players ever share the same physical space and compete against one another?
NOT ANSWERED: That’s a desirable feature and something we’d love to do, but we have nothing to announce right now.
Will this require PlayStation®Plus membership to play?
ANSWERED: Solo Play will not require PlayStation®Plus. Anything that requires direct multi-player interaction, such as Open Play, CQC, Private Groups will require PlayStation®Plus.
Will remote play be available for PlayStation®Vita?
ANSWERED: Yes, we plan on supporting remote play via PlayStation®Vita with more details on this closer to release.
Can I transfer my CMDR save to the PS4™ from my PC, Mac or Xbox?
NOT ANSWERED: We understand this is a desired request but we have nothing to announce at this time.
Can I share my commander between platforms?
ANSWERED: This will not be possible. Similar to our Xbox One release, we are unable to support access to a single CMDR save across multiple platforms.
Can I move my game license over to the PS4™?
ANSWERED: This will not be possible. PlayStation®4 will be a new purchase on a new platform.
Will I be able to use my PC peripherals (Mouse, Keyboard, controller, etc)?
NOT ANSWERED: Players will be able to use a USB keyboard for text input. We have no other information regarding direct controller input.
As a Kickstarter backer, do I get anything from the PS4™ release?
ANSWERED: A PlayStation®4 version was not part of the Kickstarter for Elite Dangerous and will not be included as part of any historical pledge.
Will full 4K be supported for Elite Dangerous on the PS4™Pro?
NOT ANSWERED: Elite Dangerous will feature enhanced performance on PS4™Pro. We’ll have more to information about this closer to release.
How will store currency work on the PS4™?
ANSWERED: Players will be able to purchase Frontier Points from the PlayStation®Store. These points can then be used to purchase Ship items, such as Paint Jobs, Ship Kits and Bobbleheads from the Frontier Store via an in-game link.
Can I buy/transfer my paint jobs, laser colours etc to the PS4™?
ANSWERED: This will not be possible. All cosmetic items intended for use on PS4™ must be purchased on PS4™.
Will there be a discount for buying on PS4™ if I own another copy?
ANSWERED: There is no discount promotion planned at this time.
Will there be Joystick support for PS4™?
ANSWERED: So far we have confirmed that Thrustmaster will be supported for Elite Dangerous on PS4™. Please keep an eye on our social media channels and forums for further information after release.
Will the DUALSHOCK®4 touch pad button be utilised at all?
ANSWERED: Elite Dangerous supports the DUALSHOCK®4 controller in the following ways:
- Touch Navigation. Explore Elite Dangerous’ map of the Milky Way with a swipe using touch pad that make navigation fast and easy. - Extra Control. Customize four additional touch pad button ‘hotkeys’ to suit your own play style. - Fast Headlook. Quickly track your enemies in the heat of combat with optional motion-based headlook controls powered by the DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller.
How will the CMDR name system work on PS4™?
ANSWERED: A player’s PlayStation™Network Online ID (PSN Online ID) will be used as their Commander Name.
